“A Desperate Attempt” shows us a man going to great lengths in order to reach his creative powers and try to create something beautiful. The piece endeavours to establish a relationship between artist and curator whilst exploring on the role of a muse in the creative process. It is a frighteningly honest attempt to deal with the notions of failure and infatuation.

In 2007 I met a young curator who I thought would be the solution to my creative block at the time. She would be my everlasting inspiration and muse. I would be making art for her while she would show it to the world. We'd make a happy art-couple. The following video was the first result of my collaboration with her. And the last. Looking back at the result I felt very embarrassed and uneasy...

A few years later I showed this video to a few students at a Dutch art school in order to make them feel at ease for their upcoming final exam show. “Hey look,” I wanted to say. “Don't be afraid to make mistakes sometimes. You'll learn from them. It is part of the process. We've all been there.”

Some of the students had to laugh so much that they almost started crying and then they all gave me advice on how to improve this piece. I was surprised by their emotional response.

I still don't know wether this is a good artwork or not!?
