Breaking down a storage-board in my studio VIDEO
When you feel nothing works anymore and everything has to change.
I felt stuck with my studio-work. Literally; no shows, no interest from anybody, no money, the art-world had gone crazy too. Now that I’d made a canoe out of parts of my studio (see: Out in the Great Wide Open) I could as well move it up to the extreme and cut everything up that I had in my workspace: my drawing-table, curtains, cupboards, everything.
At least I would have a boat to enjoy the water and weather outside! It would all move again!
My kids designed a logo that I hand-embroidered onto the sail
Ready to go, if only I could find a safe harbour!
First experiments were promising, I even made it to the neighbouring city of Tilburg, some 30+km down the canal, through waterlocks and all.
But the waves of an oncoming pleasure-yacht turned me into a castaway on the way back. I had to be rescued by a fire-brigade from an embankment at the canal where I sat on a metal rail for hours, fishing my belongings out of the water.
To be continued!
An extra float and a how for more stability in the water (made from my drawing table)
Turning curtains into a sail.
(This is much harder than I thought, technically! More work than the boat itself).
